This book is probably the most honest view into the psyche of someone who feels they have reached the end of their rope. For anyone struggling with self destructive thoughts or has lost someone this way, Chuck’s raw account will give insight into the question “how could they do this?” Because I am very familiar with the Sticky story and have followed it from the beginning, Chuck’s story felt very personal to me. I cried the entire way through it, both for the loss of Sticky as well as empathy for Chuck’s deep suffering. His account of his experience and how he clawed his way out is important reading. I hope this book gets the recognition it deserves.
This book is brutally honest and so sincere. So glad you shared it with us and didn’t get on that train. If you haven’t read it yet, you must. Grab one for you and some for your friends!!! Thank you. You are amazing!!!
This book shares the very raw emotions of grief and loss, and what that very dark place looks like when we lose all hope. When we forget for a moment that tomorrow is a new day with endless possibilities, and that we have to stay to see what those might be. It’s also a book with a very real description of the journey out of that black hole, with the beginnings of a beautiful love story (enter Allen). Thank you Chuck for sticking around for Mikee and the kids, and all of us out there who are waiting to see what’s next in the adventures of Allen (and his dad).
Have tissues ready, because you are going to need them to read this honest, raw account of one man's journey through loss, grief, hopelessness and recovery. It is possible hit rock bottom, and then fall farther. Though the final blow was the loss of his feline friend, it's clear other factors were in play leading to Chuck's downward spiral. But this story proves their is always hope, always something to keep going, no matter how deep the hole is. A friend of mine once called this journey 'the dark night of the soul', which seems close to what Mr. Hawley must have experienced. This is a must read for anyone needing a glimmer of hope, no matter how dark our lives might seem to be; you just have to look for it.
This book puts into words what the difficult topic of suicide looks like from the inside. It’s not something you read everyday. It’s emotional, raw, and likely eerily familiar for many. This book will help many people realize they’re not alone. It is a VERY important book to read, for everyone.
